I feel like I’m going to look back at this post and wish that my writing was better, but I did promise that I would write one post a month, so here I am! I’m currently in my first year of my GPD at Peabody, and have gotten to meet some of the new faces in and outside of my studio. I feel like my biggest struggle will be making sure I use my time effectively, since I don’t have as many classes to take for this program as a Master’s Degree.
One thing that I’ve done to let my playing be heard by more of my peers is to invite them to hang out, play board games, and also share excerpts. If you’re in school, being able to pair playing music for someone with a fun activity makes the prospect of asking people to hear you play less intimidating.
The biggest news that I have to announce is that I will be part of an orchestra tour that takes place during the winter, and goes on a tour throughout China! It’s part of FOOSA, a summer academy in Fresno that I had been to in the past, and is now going on their first international tour. This will be my third time going to China in my life, and it’s interesting how they’ve all been equally spaced out. My first time was in 2003, when I turned 8 and went with my mom and sister. The second time was in 2011, when I turned 16 and went with my classmates. I will be turning 24 this year, and it makes me wonder whether I’ll be headed back in 2027, when I turn 32. Anyways, that’s it for this post, and I hope you all are having a wonderful weekend!
